The Northern Lights Music Festival is an intensive 18 day classical music performance program that will take participants before large and enthusiastic audiences in four northern Minnesota cities this summer. At Northern Lights you are the stars, performing numerous times in chamber music, solo and ensemble repertoire. Evening and matinee concerts are scheduled on a daily basis, with extra performances in regional libraries for children. If you want to be on stage, if you have programs to try out, if you want to experience the life of a performing artist, Northern Lights is the place for you!

The newly renovated Mesabi East High School in Aurora, will be our home. The school, with its historic auditorium, opens its doors for rehearsal, teaching and practice. Steinway and Boston grand and upright pianos are available without limit.  An internationally renowned faculty joins you to teach and coach, culminating in master class and live performances for the Northern Lights Music Festival audiences.

Participants are placed with those of similar age and ability to form piano trios, quartets and quintets. Repertoire assignments will be made in advance to enable the ensembles to make best use of their rehearsal time. Students receive two private lessons a week, and multiple chamber music coachings in addition to daily theory and sight singing classes for pre-college students. Experienced and exceptional staff accompanists are provided.

Concerts featuring participants are held in Aurora at Mesabi East School and Holy Rosary Church; at the University of Minnesota/Duluth, as part of the Sieur Du Luth Summer Arts Festival Festival; at the Lyric Theatre in Virginia, and the resort city of Ely.
