Oleksii Ivanchenko (NLMF '10 - 14) has been awarded a Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Mr. Ivanchenko received his B.M. and M.M. in piano performance from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ where he studied with Veda Zuponcic.
Mr. Ivanchenko has won numerous awards and competitions including both the Rowan University Concerto Competition, which he won twice, and the Frost School of Music Concerto Competition. He was the 1st Prize winner of the 2009 International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, DC and 2nd Prize winner in the 2009 MTNA National Competition. He is a laureate of the Herberger Bosendorfer International Piano Competition and the Unisa International Competition.
Stanley DeLage (NLMF '12 - 14) has won First Prize at the 6th Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford, CT. His win in the "Professional" category includes a cash prize and automatic advancement to the finals of the Osaka International Music Competition in Japan.
The annual competition, sponsored by the Connecticut Chopin Foundation, was held March 12 - 15 and featured an international jury including Krystian Tkaczewski,George Borisov and Jerome Rose.
Mr. DeLage is a graduate of Rowan University in New Jersey where he studied with Northern Lights Artistic Director Veda Zuponcic. He is currently pursuing his Master's Degree at Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Alexander Shtarkman.
Northern Lights Festival Opera is proud to announce that soprano Jasmina Halimic has been cast in the role of Hanna Glawari in this season's production of Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow.
Ms. Halimic recent portrayal of the title character in David Carlson's new opera Anna Karenina was praised by the San Francisco Chronicle who called her a "virtuoso ... of technical prowess and expressive transparency..." Other noteworthy performances include Marguerite in the Opera San Jose's production of Gounod's Faust and soprano soloist in Verdi's Requiem with the Charleston Symphony.

Matt is a two-timer winner of the Northern Lights Music Festival Concerto Competition performing with the NLMF Orchestra in 2011 and 2013.
Northern Lights Festival Opera Music Director Gavriel Heine has just completed a two week tour of the East Coast with the famed Mariinsky Ballet. A staff conductor at the Mariinsky Theater, Maestro Heine conducted three performances of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the Brooklyn Academy of Music January 21 - 23.
With a final matinee yesterday he led seven performances of a Rite of Spring/ Fokine/Paquita triple-bill at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
Maestro Heine is the son of NLMF founding Artistic Director Veda Zuponcic and was born and raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Read more about his journey from New Jersey to Russia.
Congratulations to Amanda Liu (NLMF '07-14) who was a finalist in the 2015 ASU Bosendorfer/Yamaha Competition held earlier this year. Amanda, who is a student of Veda Zuponcic, competed in the Senior Division for pianists age 16 - 18.
Amanda was also one of our 2014 Concerto Competition winners, performing the first movement of Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto with the Northern Lights Festival orchestra.

Hans-Derek Yu (NLMF '12-14) student of Veda Zuponcic is a finalist in the 2015 Philadelphia Orchestra/Albert Greenfield Competition which will be held this coming March.
Hans is a two-timer winner of the NLMF Concerto Competition, performing the first movement of Kabalevsky's 3rd Piano Concerto with the Northern Lights Festival Orchestra in 2012 and the first movement of Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto with the orchestra in 2014.
