Opera Apprentice Program Announced!

This season, a new production of Puccini’s Tosca will be staged by Ecuadorian director, Chia Patiño. Tosca will be updated to a Central American location, with Tosca, to be performed by the amazing Cuban-American soprano, Elizabeth Caballero, portrayed as a pop star. 

Opera Apprentices will be cast in comprimario roles or in the opera chorus.

A second opera, Menotti’s The Medium, will also be produced, with all secondary roles to be filled by the Opera Apprentices.

A program of Opera Scenes will also be mounted, to be performed in Virginia, MN and another location to be announced.

The Northern Lights Music Festival Opera Apprentice Program provides young, gifted singers an opportunity to participate in the NLMF mainstage operaa as singers in comprimario roles, as covers, and in the chorus; as well as simultaneously preparing a touring performance of opera scenes, receiving private lessons and coachings in stagecraft and diction.

The intensive four-week course will provide participants daily with performance seminars, master classes, individual coachings, stage craft, movement, and diction classes.

NLMF instrumentalists and conductors collaborate with singers in chamber music performances throughout the festival season. Singers are invited to perform on frequent chamber music recitals.

Collegiate students and young professionals are welcome to apply.
