Lisa Chavez is a captivating dramatic Mezzo Soprano. Last season Ms. Chavez made her Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre debut singing the three Mezzo leads of Frugola, Principessa, and Zita in a new production of Puccini’s Il Trittico which was filmed for release in the near future. Ms. Chavez has been a regular soloist with Sarasota opera in such roles as Carmen, Santuzza, Madame de Croissy, Marquise de Berkenfield, Fenena, and this winter she returned for her role debut as Azucena.

Along with standard repertoire, Ms. Chavez has shown her strength in her interpretations of new works. She originated the role of Maggie in the World Premiere of Stonewall by Iain Bell and Mark Campbell with New York City Opera. In addition to Stonewall, Lisa has performed in multiple American operas including; the title role in the New York premiere of Tobias Picker’s Dolores Claiborne with New York City Opera, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti with Opera Parallèle, the Secretary in The Consul, and Madame Volanges in Dangerous Liaisons. Ms. Chavez was also a finalist in the worldwide Opera Competition with Mezzo TV, and seen via live telecast across Europe on Mezzo TV performing the role of Elizabeth Proctor in Robert Ward’s The Crucible.

Recent debuts include Mezzo soloist in Verdi’s Requiem with the Savannah Philharmonic, Adalgisa in Norma with Opera Tampa, and the title character in Massenet’s rarely performed Thérèse with Sarasota Opera.Other memorable roles include; Amneris in Aida, Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri, Salud in La Vida Breve, Paula in Florencia en el Amazonas, Federico García Lorca in Ainadamar and Dido in Dido and Aneas.

Lisa is a graduate of the Master’s Degree Program at the Manhattan School of Music. She was a First Place and Audience Choice awards winner of the Irma M. Cooper Vocal Competition with Opera Columbus, placed Third in the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition, was a grant recipient from the Giulio Gari Foundation, Gerda Lissner Foundation, and a finalist in the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition.
